The owners wanted a renovation to modern standards, while retaining the traditional character of this 15th Century Grade II listed Dorset Long House.
We carried out their wishes to the letter, including extensive structural works, underpinning existing walls, a new roof and new floors. A substantial extension was also added to create a sympathetic addition to the original house.
Every effort has been taken to keep the original features, including exposing the beams, restoring the fireplace -even the original well has become a feature within the new layout.
The replacement windows were manufactured to match existing profiles as close as possible, while fitting in with modern insulation requirements.
The application of modern technology included new electrical wiring and new plumbing and heating. The house is fitted with the latest energy saving systems including underfloor heating and the highest quality insulation. State of the art sound and communication systems are built in throughout the houseThe introduction of oak beams and oak floors and staircases by the client and architect, together with a simple modern colour scheme has created a perfect ambience for this unique home.It was a pleasure to lead the building work on this challenging project. Please click on the Flickr icon for more photos of this project
